At The Western Lights Residences, we provide around-the-clock non-medical care designed to support individuals with developmental disabilities in a safe, nurturing, and home-like environment. All services we offer comply with California’s Title 22 regulations for Adult Residential Facilities (ARFs), with select medical services coordinated through licensed third-party providers when needed.

 

Staffing Ratio - 3 clients: 1 DSP / Caregiver

 

Personal Care & Daily Living Assistance (24/7)

  • Bathing assistance
  • Dressing and grooming
  • Toileting and incontinence care
  • Mobility assistance, including transfers (bed to chair, etc.)
  • Meal setup and feeding support, if needed

Support is tailored to each resident’s abilities and preferences, always provided with gentleness and dignity.

Nutrition & Meal Service

  • Three nutritious, home-cooked meals per day
  • Morning, afternoon, and evening snacks
  • Menus reviewed and approved by a certified dietitian or licensed nutritionist
  • Modifications for:
    • Soft or pureed diets
    • Diabetic-friendly meals
    • Culturally or religiously appropriate foods
  • Assistance with eating for residents who require support

Medication Management

  • Medication reminders
  • Assistance with self-administration of medications
  • Storage and documentation of medications as required by law

Note: We do not administer injections or IV medications. Residents needing skilled nursing must receive those services via a licensed third-party Home Health or Hospice agency, coordinated through our team.

Housekeeping & Laundry

  • Daily tidying of resident rooms
  • Weekly (or as needed) full-room cleaning
  • Laundry services for personal clothing and bedding
  • Sanitization of high-touch areas

Social & Emotional Support

  • Daily structured routines
  • Therapeutic recreational activities
  • Life skills development, based on individual IPP goals
  • Quiet time, spiritual care, and sensory regulation

Our staff are trained in trauma-informed care and positive behavior supports for residents with developmental disabilities or behavioral needs.

Health Monitoring & Coordination

  • Monitoring for signs of illness or health decline
  • Scheduling and accompanying residents to medical appointments (if included in service plan)
  • Collaborating with third-party Home Health or Hospice providers
  • Maintaining documentation and family/legal representative updates

Safety & Supervision

  • 24/7 staff coverage
  • Emergency drills and preparedness
  • Wander-risk monitoring (as appropriate)
  • Fire/smoke alarm systems (per Title 22 and fire marshal regulations)
  • Locked medication and chemical storage
  • Routine environmental safety checks

Individualized Service Planning

  • Person-Centered Individual Service Plans (ISP)
  • Regular assessments and updates based on:
    • Preferences and goals
    • Behavior support needs
    • Communication abilities
    • Support level for ADLs

Optional Third-Party Services (Contracted & Coordinated)

  • Licensed Home Health Nurses
  • Certified Hospice Agencies
  • Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists
  • Behavioral specialists
  • Dental and podiatry services (when available)

These services are not provided directly by The Western Lights Residences but are arranged through qualified outside providers.

Family Communication & Advocacy

  • Regular family updates (phone, email, or in-person)
  • Open-door visitation (within house rules and resident preferences)
  • Assistance with benefits coordination (e.g., Medi-Cal, SSI, IHSS)
  • Support with Regional Center resources and advocacy
